Acting U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel met with with senior Iranian officials in Tehran over the weekend, including with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif. A UNSCOL representative told The Daily Star Monday that these meetings came as part of regular regional consultations focused on the importance of safeguarding Lebanon's stability, security and sovereignty, and shielding the country from regional conflicts. During her visit to Tehran, Kardel met with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, a veteran of Iran's Foreign Ministry and the current assistant to Iranian parliamentary Speaker Ali Larijani, according to a report by Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.
