Lawmakers Tuesday re-elected Parliament's secretariat and committees unchanged in the body's first meeting of the fall session.Three MPs also put forward draft laws after the vote.Yacoubian and Kataeb MP Sami Gemayel separately put forward draft laws that would see the wages and lifelong remuneration of MPs drastically reduced.Yacoubian's bill would abolish a controversial law that gives lawmakers their full salary for the rest of their lives, even after they have left Parliament. It would reduce the amount to one year of compensation based on a rate proportional to the number of terms they spent in the legislature: 55 percent for those who had spent one term in Parliament, 65 percent for those who spent two terms, and 75 percent for those who spent three or more terms.
