Residents and employees of Zahle closed their shops and factories Friday, demanding that the state renew its contract with a local company that is providing the city with 24/7 power.Local media reported that the Zahle Traders Association called for shops and business to close in solidarity with Electricite de Zahle, the private company that currently provides 24/7 electricity to the area. During the summer, caretaker Energy and Water Minister Cesar Abi Khalil said his ministry has laid out a plan to provide round-the-clock electricity to Zahle and reduce tariffs.
