A flurry of intensified political activity designed to announce the formation of a new government over the weekend suffered a setback Friday over the Lebanese Forces' Cabinet share, after President Michel Aoun insisted on retaining the Justice Ministry, officials said.Another sticking point that could delay the Cabinet formation, the source said, are demands by Sunni lawmakers outside Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri's Future Movement to be represented in the new government. The LF's Cabinet representation was the main topic of discussion during Hariri's separate meetings at his Downtown residence with Bassil in the afternoon and with caretaker Information Minister Melhem Riachi in the evening. However, Riachi returned to meet Hariri again following a telephone conversation between Hariri and LF leader Samir Geagea to coordinate their stances on the Cabinet formation after the LF was denied the Justice Ministry. An LF source said they feel that the FPM had turned against the Cabinet compromise that called for allocating the Justice Ministry to the LF.Speaking to reporters after meeting with Hariri, Riachi implicitly accused Bassil of undermining the premier-designate's attempts to form the Cabinet.
