Lebanon Sunday joined the global condemnation of the recent U.S. decision to cut all funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, denouncing it as an attempt to deny Palestinians their right of return.Lebanon also praised Germany's recent decision to increase its aid to UNRWA.UNRWA was founded after the 1948 War surrounding Israel's creation, to serve some 700,000 Palestinians who fled or were uprooted from their homes. Palestinian officials strongly condemned the U.S. decision, calling it an attack on the Palestinian people and an attempt to remove sensitive core issues from any future negotiations.Israel's prime minister meanwhile welcomed the decision, accusing the U.N. agency of perpetuating a crisis that lies at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The European Union said the decision was "regrettable," but expressed hope the U.S. would reconsider its decision.
