Caretaker Environment Minister Tarek Khatib called Monday for the indictment of a hunter suspected of illegally shooting birds in Chouf, a statement from the ministry said.Khatib was quoted in the statement as saying that the decision to open the hunting season earlier this week did not mean that hunters had the right to shoot all types of birds.About 2.6 million birds from roughly 327 species are estimated to be killed in Lebanon each year, hampering global conservation efforts, according to a joint letter released earlier this year by a group of 52 Lebanese and international environmental NGOs and bird-advocacy groups.
