Where in Beirut can you find a Saturday BBQ or Sunday movie night held in a setting fit for the likes of Umm Kulthum and Brigitte Bardot? In an attempt to shed its long-standing image as a high-brow establishment reserved exclusively for glitzy foreigners and Lebanese socialites, the Phoenicia has begun a campaign to broaden its image and attract a younger crowd. The Phoenicia also recently invited to Beirut Dimitris Kyrsanidis, a Red Bull athlete in parkour, a sport in which athletes interact with their environment as if it is an obstacle course, scaling and jumping on and off anything in their path.During his stay, the Greek professional athlete filmed an advertisement in which the Phoenicia became the obstacle course – performing a backflip off one of the hotel's balconies and sliding down the banister of its marble staircase.
