The situation at Rafik Hariri International Airport returned to normal Friday afternoon after a technical fault the night before caused chaos, angering travelers and delaying flights for hours. The scene of thousands of passengers stuck at the airport prompted Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to chair an urgent meeting to address the situation, while Middle East Airlines was forced to change its schedule for departing flights. The chaos erupted just after 11 p.m. Thursday, when departures and bag drop processing systems stopped operating, delaying flights and trapping passengers.A senior airport source confirmed to The Daily Star that the issue had been resolved and the system was up and running at 4:40 a.m., but other measures had to be taken that further delayed flights.Thursday night's incident came after the airport had been suffering from increased overcrowding over the past two months, forcing travelers to arrive many hours ahead of their flight.
