Lebanon has appointed members for a joint Lebanese-Russian committee to coordinate refugee returns, sources said Wednesday. On the Lebanese side, the coordination committee includes four designated people: Hariri's adviser for Russian affairs George Chaaban as a representative of the premier; former Free Patriotic Movement MP Amal Abou Zeid as a representative of the Foreign Ministry; General Security chief Abbas Ibrahim; and a representative from the Army, a source with knowledge of the discussions told The Daily Star.In July, Russia contacted Lebanon to form a joint committee to coordinate refugee returns to Syria, proposing that the United Nations oversee and assist in implementing the initiative.
