Municipal workers in a number of towns in the Bekaa Valley held a one-hour protest Monday to demand that the state release overdue funding to municipalities. Municipalities across the country have not received their allocations from the Independent Municipal Fund for 2017 and 2018 . Hermel Mayor Sobhi Saqr told The Daily Star that his employees have not received wages for January and February, and that the municipality has not received its Independent Municipal Fund allocation since 2017 .Saqr said the Hermel Municipality has suspended almost all its services for the past four months or so, and had suspended work on projects seven months ago.
