This article was amended on Monday, April 15 2019

An earlier version of this article cited an incorrect figure from the state-run National News Agency claiming 33,963 ballots were cast in the by-election, with Jamali winning 66 percent of the vote based on that number. However, Interior Ministry figures indicate 32,963 ballots were cast, with Jamali winning 68 percent of the vote. The Daily Star regrets this error.
