Security officials forcibly restrained some protesters who attempted to enter the Education Ministry Monday during a sit-in held to condemn the death of George Zreik, who had set himself on fire following a dispute with his daughter's school over the payment of fees.Zreik succumbed to serious burns Friday morning.Mahmoud Kataya, the financial adviser of the league, told The Daily Star the group was demanding that the ministry, which provides financial support to both public and private schools, take on a stronger oversight role on school budgets.Since George Zreik's self-immolation, Chehayeb pledged to cover the tuition fees for Zreik's two kids.Nahas told The Daily Star that Zreik's act had come after he worked hard to keep his child away from the "humiliation" of public schools, whose quality of education many people see as being inferior to that of private schools.
