ISF arrests man suspected of raping underage niece

BEIRUT: The Internal Security Forces has arrested a man suspected of raping his underage niece in northern Lebanon, the agency reported in a statement Tuesday.

According to the statement, news had circulated on social media that a man had raped his underage niece, “which resulted in the birth of a child who was hidden by the family.”

The ISF said that the man, a Lebanese national, was born in 1979 and that the girl, also Lebanese, was born in 2003.

A unit from a local police station in the north later determined the suspect’s location and arrested him.

The ISF said that the suspect’s wife, a Lebanese woman born in 1981, told police that her niece's pregnancy had gone unnoticed until “she complained of a pain in her stomach soon before she was taken to the hospital.”
