This article was amended on Wednesday, June 19 2019

A previous version of this article stated that the veterans in Akkar were meeting to discuss potentially protesting a proposed import tax. In fact, they were meeting to discuss opposing the income tax. It also said a group of retired military staff gathered at the Finance Ministry’s imports department, when in fact they gathered at the ministry’s revenues department.

The Daily Star regrets these errors.
