Interior Minister Raya El Hassan Wednesday called on the Internal Security Forces to take urgent action to apply hunting laws in Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported. An estimated 2.6 million birds from roughly 327 species are killed in Lebanon each year, hampering global conservation efforts, according to a joint letter released earlier in 2018 by a group of 52 Lebanese and international environmental NGOs and bird advocacy groups. In order to combat this, the interior minister set out a list measures to be taken by the ISF, beginning with distributing a copy of the hunting law to all agency employees and ensuring they know the dates of the hunting season. An interior ministry representative will coordinate with ISF officials and assess the hunting situation across Lebanon, Hassan wrote.
