In a first-of-its-kind surgery in Lebanon and the region, doctors at the American University of Beirut Medical Center performed a robot-assisted breast reconstruction this spring, the hospital said Wednesday.AUBMC has a pre-existing robotic surgery team, but this was the first time the hospital, or any hospital in the Middle East and North Africa region, had undertaken a breast reconstruction using the robotic technology.Dr. Ramzi Alami, assistant professor of the clinical surgery department and a member of the robotic surgery team, who was also present during the surgery, called AUBMC's robotic surgeons "pioneers in the region".
