For the second time in less than a week, the Cabinet Tuesday approved a new batch of key administrative appointments, overriding objections from Lebanese Forces ministers who criticized the move for allegedly not adopting an appropriate mechanism.
The Cabinet, which discussed and approved most of the 26 items on the agenda, including administrative appointments, also listened to Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil who presented the broad lines of the draft 2020 budget.
Last Thursday, the Cabinet approved a series of long-awaited key judicial jobs, including the appointment of a new head of the Higher Judicial Council, a state prosecutor, a head of the State Shura Council and a new head of the Court of Audit, whose job is mainly to check and audit the accounts of state institutions, including spending of state budgets.
After Khalil conducted a preliminary reading of the 2020 budget, Hariri said the Cabinet would begin Wednesday discussing the budget in detail by holding successive sessions to finish it by the constitutional deadline.
