BEIRUT: The body of an unidentified individual was found in a car that was set ablaze on the outskirts of Beirut Sunday.

The car, a black Mercedes 260, license plate number 374224 J and registered in the names of Mazen Mahmoud Hasan and Mariam Sleiman Aoun, was set alight by unidentified individuals at around 3 a.m. in the tunnel leading to the Iman Al-Khoui Almabarat Association in Khaldeh, security sources said.

Fire trucks from the Civil Defense were dispatched to the scene and put out what was left of the burned out car, which contained the charred corpse.

Investigations are under way to ascertain the identity of the individual in the car and the culprits in the incident.
