Impromptu acts give Israel pretext to bomb south: Hoss

BEIRUT: Resisting Israel shouldn’t take place through freelance military actions on the border, according to former Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Hoss said that such “impromptu” acts only gave pretexts to Israel to bomb south Lebanon.

Hoss was referring to the launch Tuesday of at least one rocket from the outskirts of the village of Rmaish into Israel, for which the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, believed to be an affiliate of Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility.

The Israeli military fired four artillery shells in response. Hoss said acts of military resistance should be carried out by groups that “are responsible for their acts and can justify them.”

Hoss added that Lebanon alone should not carry out resistance, but should be joined by “all Arab states, or at least the countries that have borders” with Israel.

The Lebanese Army and UNIFIL troops are continuing their investigation into Tuesday’s rocket launch.
