Saudi Arabia denies asking citizens to leave Lebanon

BEIRUT: The Saudi Arabian Embassy Monday denied reports that the country is considering asking its nationals to leave Lebanon.

“This information is inaccurate,” spokesperson at the embassy told The Daily Star.

Reports surfaced over the weekend that Saudi Arabia may ask its nationals to evacuate the country, citing some threats against its citizens but said the situation in Lebanon was normal.

Two months ago, media reports said the embassy had advised its nationals to avoid the area of Downtown Beirut following a series of incidents sparked by the assault of a Saudi prince in August.

In January, Saudi Arabia also asked its citizens to avoid Lebanon in their travels due to the lack of a functioning government in the country following the collapse of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s Cabinet.
