BEIRUT: James Bond star Daniel Craig says he once considered a career as a journalist in Beirut, but decided it was too dangerous.
The award-winning British actor told Men’s Journal that during Lebanon’s 15-year Civil War in the 1980s he went out drinking with war correspondent friends in Beirut, which made him think about pursuing the same career.
"They'd asked me to come along with them. We had late-night drinking sessions where Beirut was an option. Over a couple of drinks it seemed like a good idea at the time,” Men’s Journal quoted him as saying.
He later acknowledged: "That takes a level of bravery I don't have."
Craig has appeared in dramas and action films such as “Elizabeth,” “The Power of One,” “A Kid in King Arthur's Court,” “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” “Road to Perdition,” “Layer Cake,” “Munich,” and “The Golden Compass.”
He rose to prominence with his 2006 role as Ian Fleming’s James Bond in “Casino Royale,” for which he won critical acclaim.
Craig is returning next year with a new movie called "Skyfall" and a star-studded cast.
