Judges finally receive salary increases

BEIRUT: Judges received Monday their increased salaries three months after a law doubling their pay was passed, a source told The Daily Star. A law to boost the salaries of judges was passed in August to improve their financial situation.

According to the source, the Finance Ministry did not secure the necessary funds for the pay raise, forcing the Justice Ministry to obtain an advanced payment from the treasury.

Sources in the Justice Ministry said that judges will be paid the additional portion of their salary from the past three months with December’s salary before the holidays.

“This is the first time that judges feel they are treated with fairness and that their financial situation is close to that of the legislative and executive powers,” a judge said.

Congratulations to our judges and professors.. Hopefully all those unprivileged in Lebanon, from labor workers and taxi drivers to bankers and teachers, will be able to live a decent life.. Hopefully the government will approve of all demands and stop procrastinating work!
