Italy sends aid to Syrian refugees in Lebanon

BEIRUT: Italy has sent 17 tons of humanitarian aid worth $200,000 to assist some 6,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, announced the Italian embassy in Beirut.

The items include medical kits, power generators, blankets and water bottles.

The cargo plane carrying the aid is being sent by the Italian Development Cooperation, following an appeal by the opposition Syrian National Council President Burhan Ghalioun.

The goods are scheduled to arrive Friday evening in Beirut, where officials from the Italian Foreign Ministry will hand them over to the UNHCR and the Lebanese government.
