BEIRUT: Syrians in Lebanon are being urged to hold a mass gathering at the Syrian Embassy in Beirut Sunday in support of the security and stability of Syria.
The National News Agency said a statement by the “Syrian Arab community in Lebanon” called on Syrians residing in the country to join the popular rally at 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Syrian Embassy in the Beirut neighborhood of Hamra.
“The rally is in support of national unity and stability [in Syria], and in support of modernization and reform in the country under the leadership of President Bashar Assad,” said the statement.
Human rights watchdogs have claimed that thousands of Syrian dissidents are missing and more than 1,500 are believed to have been killed by the government’s security forces.
The statement also said that participants in the rally can sign a petition of support on a 50-meter long Syrian flag.
