Lebanon’s top comedian, Fahmen, dies

BEIRUT:Lebanon’s oldest and most popular comedian, Mahmoud Mabsout, better known as “Fahmen” died of a heart attack Monday at a hospital in Nabatieh.

Fahmen who made thousands of Lebanese laugh on the popular black and white TV show, Abou Salim Crew, collapsed on a stage in the city of Kfarssir during a play early morning on Monday.

He was rushed to Sheikh Ragheb Harb Hospital but died few hours later.

“He is not only famous he’s loved by everyone and he was our laughter in war days. We really love you Mahmoud Mabsout,” Eva Sarkis, a fan wrote on his Facebook page.

“I feel I lost an Uncle... RIP Mahmoud Mabsout Fehman,” another fan wrote.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at Imam Ali Mosque at al-Tariq al-Jadideh, in Beirut.

Fahmen

We grew up watching you. We laughed with you with our parents, siblings, cousins, and with strangers too. Your laughter brought us closer, while so many things in this country sets us apart.

I mourn your death, as I mourn the state of our beloved Lebanon. You represented what was good about our Lebanon...days of sun, of laughter, of kindness, and yes of citizenship.

I only wish that you could have lived longer to see us out of these dark times. I only wish that death could have claimed any of those useless and so called politicians and their cronies, and spared you another day, so you could remind us one more time of a better Lebanon.

I am so sad for us.

God Bless
Rabih

My condolences to your immediate family. And may you rest in peace.

Yet another irreplaceable loss to Lebanese art.
