Lebanese rally in support of Syrian protesters
TRIPOLI: Dozens of Lebanese rallied in support of the Syrian people and pro-democracy protests in Syria after the weekly Friday prayers at al-Qobba town in Tripoli.

Despite previous decisions to postpone Friday's protest in Tripoli, dozens of Lebanese chanted slogans in support of the Syrian people as they rallied in the streets of Lebanon’s second largest city.

Amid calls for reform and pressure from the international community, Assad’s regime responded to protests with a crackdown on demonstrators, killing over 1,000 people throughout the country.

Sources told the Daily Star that demonstrators rallying in solidarity with pro-Democracy protests in Syria raised banners denouncing the actions of the Assad regime.

While thousands of Syrians were reportedly demonstrating in several towns in Syria Friday, many of them working in the neighboring Lebanon joined the Tripoli rally and called on the international community to prosecute Assad for his crimes against innocent protesters.

Some at the rally told The Daily Star that the demonstrations would continue to support the Syrian people until their demands for toppling “Assad’s oppressive regime” are met.
