BEIRUT: Two Lebanese
cadets have received appointments to study at military academies in the
United States, the American Embassy announced Thursday.

Kanaan, who graduated from Jdeideh Public High School, will attend the
U.S. Air Force Academy and Midshipman Roland Ahmar, who graduated from
Sagesse High School, will attend the U.S. Naval Academy.
A statement from the Embassy said that Maura Connelly met with General Kahwagi and the two cadets in General Kahwagi’s office at the Lebanese Army’s headquarters to congratulate them on their appointments. Kanaan and Ahmar will depart in this summer to begin their studies, and will spend four years studying with their American counterparts. After graduation, they will return and receive commissions as lieutenants.
Both cadets were selected from the top students at Lebanese military academies by the LAF. The statement said six Lebanese cadets are currently attending military academies in the U.S.: three at the U.S. Naval Academy, two at West Point, and one at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
