Israel to conduct military drills on Lebanese border
A+ A-

BEIRUT: The Israeli Army will be conducting routine border exercises along the Lebanese border for one week starting Sunday.

Between June 19 and 26, the Israeli Army will be conducting military exercises, which will not constitute a threat to Lebanon, said Neeraj Singh, spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

“UNIFIL has been informed by the IDF that there will be a national home front exercise in Israel during 19th to 26th June that will involve the participation of their home front and civilian organizations. We have duly conveyed this information to the LAF,” Singh told The Daily Star.

The Israeli Army has informed UNIFIL that this is a regular periodic exercise that is taking place for the fifth consecutive year, Singh said.

“UNIFIL is in constant contact with the parties and the parties have reaffirmed their commitment to the cessation of hostilities and to Resolution 1701,” said Singh.

He added, “The situation in our area of operations is generally quiet and UNIFIL and LAF are continuing regular coordinated operations on the ground.”
