BEIRUT: Lebanese Army Commander Gen. Jean Kawhagi discussed Thursday with U.S. General John Charlton U.S.-Lebanese military cooperation, particularly in the fields of logistics and training, the National News Agency reported.
Charlton was accompanied by a military delegation, who attended the meeting along with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly.
The participants also discussed the continuation of U.S. military aid to the Lebanese Army, the NNA added. Since 2005, the U.S. has provided around $100 million annually in military aid to Lebanon, but the funds were temporarily put on hold last August because U.S.
lawmakers feared that weapons and military supplies could make their way into the hands of Hezbollah fighters.
The hold was lifted in November last year, but there is still concern that funding could be cut off if the March 8 coalition is successful in forming a Cabinet.
