BEIRUT: Mohammad Annan, the famed journalist and head of the Arab Correspondents Association, passed away earlier this week, the Press Federation said in a statement Wednesday.“
Journalism lost one of its best who dedicated himself to informing the public of Lebanon and the Arab world on unfolding events,” Mohammad Baalbaki, the head of the Lebanese Press Federation said.
“[Annan] continued to do his duty with integrity and enthusiasm until his death early this week.”
Annan headed Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyasa for 18 years in Beirut. He previously worked at Al-Hayat newspaper for 16 years as a correspondent and director, and he served as envoy for the late Kamel Mrowa, owner of Al-Hayat, to a number of Arab and Islamic countries.
Annan kept abreast of political developments, traveling to many Arab and Islamic states as well as to European and African countries where he followed up on world events relevant to the issues in the Middle East and accompanied Arab kings and presidents on their tours.
Annan wrote several books including “Libya of Idriss el-Senoussi,” a study on the Idriss housing scheme, which was published in Arabic, English and French.
