BEIRUT: An arrest warrant in absentia was issued Tuesday against a former Lebanese Army general on felony charges of spying for Israel.
Military Examining Magistrate Imad al-Zein issued the warrant for the arrest of retired Brig. Gen. Ghassan al-Jed on charges of collaborating with Israel’s Mossad secret service.
Jed, a member of the Lebanese Army engineering brigade, had fled to Frankfurt, according to a report published by the local newspaper Ad-Diyar in July 2010.
In August 2010, security services launched on a crackdown on Israeli spy networks in the country.
