BEIRUT: At least five people were wounded in armed clashes which erupted Monday evening in the Beirut southern suburbs.
The state-run National News Agency reported that the clashes broke out between Lebanese and Palestinian gunmen in the Al-Akrad neighborhood on the outskirts if Burj al-Barajneh Palestinian refugee camp.
The identity of the involved groups was unknown.
The NNA said that individuals from both groups were wounded along with at least five civilians.
A security source told The Daily Star that the confrontation, which saw an exchange of machine gun fire and hand grenades, lasted for an hour after which the Lebanese Army stepped in and restored order in the neighborhood.
When contacted by The Daily Star, Ibrahim Moussawi, Hezbollah’s media official denied any involvement by the group.
