Authorities arrest Syrian-Lebanese porn gang

BEIRUT: Four members of a criminal ring involved in the sale of pornographic films have been arrested, a security source told The Daily Star Wednesday.

The men, of Lebanese and Syrian nationality, had been promoting the sale of pirated copies of pornographic DVDs in different areas of the country, particularly Jbeil, north of Beirut, where they were apprehended, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The four were identified as Syrian nationals Shibli Mohammad Shibli, Younis Faisal al-Hussein and Mohammad Hasan al-Shibli as well as Lebanese national Mousa Haitham Ahmad.

The men have been referred to the relevant authorities and investigations are ongoing to uncover the remaining members of the ring and anyone else involved in the distribution of the pornographic films.

Like real, actual, porn? Now, that's certainly gonna change a whole lot, right?

As if there is nothing more important to worry about in Lebanon. There always will be porn, either way, and the "impact" is limited...

Bravo authorities, your citizens' attentions have been diverted. Seriously? First "satanists" and now "porn gangs" - What is wrong with the authorities in this country? It's as if they operate in a different dimension, one that's completely irrelevant to the realities of this country's citizens. Absurd and offensive. Why offensive? Because Lebanon couldn't get any more corrupt, any more expensive, any more classist, sectarian, racist, heterosexist - and all authorities care about are so called satanists and porn gangs. What about gas prices? Stone-age internet? Real-estate? Lack of opportunities without "Wasta"? These are your crimes right there. How utterly corrupt.

I'm pretty sure the authorities are *watching* -over- the evidence really carefully
