Gunfire in two separate security incidents in Beirut's southern suburbs
A+ A-

BEIRUT: Syrian workers opposed to President Bashar Assad exchanged fire Wednesday in Beirut’s southern suburbs with compatriots who support the Syrian government.

No injuries or deaths were reported as a result of the confrontation, which took place in the Baajour neighborhood near the Lebanese University campus.

Police said the two sides used light weaponry. The perpetrators fled the scene following the incident but the police have launched an investigation to determine their identities and whereabouts.

Also in Beirut’s southern suburbs, security reports recorded a separate incident in the Burj al-Barajneh area involving an exchange of light weapons fire and a car chase.

Meanwhile, a food storage warehouse in Burj al-Barajneh went up in flames Wednesday night. Civil Defense vehicles arrived at the scene and were able to control and extinguish the blaze.

Police are investigating the reasons behind the fire.
