BEIRUT: An army officer was wounded Thursday during an armed bank robbery northeast of Beirut, security sources told The Daily Star.
Zayyan al-Jurdi, identified as a captain in the army, was withdrawing money from the ATM outside Blom Bank in the Elissar area when he saw two men attempting to rob the bank.
When Jurdi tried to stop the robbers, they fired four shots at him.
A wounded Jurdi was transferred to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition.
