BEIRUT: Civil Defense and Army units extinguished fires that erupted across the country Thursday and Friday, and rescued 12 people from drowning, the National News Agency reported. According to a statement released by the Directorate General of Civil Defense, the Civil Defense and the Army doused fires including one that broke out in a warehouse storing plastic containers for fruit in the Zghorta town of Majdlaya, another in Deir Znoun Bakeries in the Bekaa Valley, and one in a vegetable packing factory in Abboudieh in Akkar. The units also extinguished forest fires in Jezzine, Qub Elias, Wadi Fisian, Bint Jbeil, Maroun al-Ras, and Habboush. Separately, the Civil Defense, with the help of the Army, rescued 12 Syrian nationals who were on a sailboat that overturned in Jounieh’s bay.
