BEIRUT: Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri contacted Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Wednesday to congratulate him on Palestinian statehood. According to a statement from his office, Hariri praised Abbas’ extraordinary efforts to reach this achievement, which paves the way for the establishment of a full Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Last week, the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly backed a resolution to recognize Palestine as a non-member observer state by a more than two-thirds majority of the 193-member world body.
