BEIRUT: Gunfire from the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon killed an 11-year old boy Tuesday in Masharih al-Qaa, in the east of country, security sources told The Daily Star.

Khaled Walid Houjairy was moved to a local hospital in critical condition after he was wounded by a gunshot from the Syrian side of the border.

The boy then died from his wounds, the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added.

Residents of Masharih al-Qaa, known to support the uprising against President Bashar Assad, have been cautious not to come near the border as forces loyal to Assad try to keep the area under their control.
