BEIRUT: Gen. Ibrahim Tannous, a former Lebanese Army commander, was laid to rest Friday in his hometown of Qobeiyat, Akkar, in the north of the country.
Tannous was laid to rest after funeral services were held at Saint George Cathedral for Maronites in Downtown Beirut.
Former President Amin Gemayel, Akkar MP Hadi Hobeish and other dignitaries attended the funeral of the Tannous, who headed the Lebanese military for a period of two years in the 1980s.
Tannous, who died Wednesday at the age of 83, joined the Military Academy in October 1952 and was promoted through the ranks until he was appointed an Army commander in December 1982.
Tannous is survived by his wife and four children.
