Tele Liban employees intensify demand for punctual pay: report

BEIRUT: Employees at Tele Liban television station are threatening an unspecified "escalation" if their demand for timely payment of wages remains unmet, reported The National News Agency.

The NNA's report quotes the head of the Union of Television Employees in Lebanon Nada Saliba al-Shweiry as saying that if Tele Liban employees do not receive their pay on Feb. 6, a general meeting will be held the following day to agree on additional measures, including the possibility of a strike.

The report says that Shweir declared in a statement that the television union's decision came "after repeated and intensive attempts by the council of the Union of Television Employees in Lebanon to ensure prompt payment of salaries met with failure."

The statement went on to describe the difficulties such repeated delays have caused for employees in the industry, many of whom can barely afford basic foodstuffs and find themselves unable to pay their childrens' school tuition.
