Three Inerga rocket-propelled grenades fired in Tripoli

BEIRUT: Three Inerga rocket-propelled grenades were fired in Tripoli in the area between Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen as residents of both neighborhoods exchanged fire Friday.

There are unconfirmed reports that two military personnel were wounded in Jabal Mohsen after an elite military squad sent to the scene came under fire.

The unrest follows anti-Syrian government protests which took place in Tripoli Friday as around 700 people marched from Al-Mansour Al-Kabir mosque to the city center chanting slogans condemning Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Jabal Mohsen is a bastion of support for Assad, while residents of Bab al-Tabbaneh overwhelmingly tend to be opposed to the Syrian president and his regime.
