BEIRUT: Police arrested four people on suspicion of possessing and selling counterfeit bills in Mount Lebanon, according to a Thursday Internal Security Forces statement.
A man was arrested in Jounieh, having been found with $100,000 in fake money, while in Sin al-Fil, an Egyptian national was arrested with $50,000 on him, the statement said.
The police also arrested a man suspected of transferring counterfeit money to both suspects and the man who is the alleged original source of the money.
According to the statement, the latter was planning to trick a victim into buying $700,000 worth of counterfeit money.
“The investigation is ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the gang [involved],” the statement said.
