BEIRUT: The Consumer Protection Office said Thursday it confiscated a quantity of expired fish in Hadath, south of Beirut.
The announcement was made during a news conference held by Director General of the Economy Ministry Fouad Flaifel.
Flaifel said another quantity of fish of questionable quality has also been seized from the same area.
“This is the result of regular patrols and consistent follow-ups by the Consumer Protection Office across Lebanon with the aim of curbing fraud,” Flaifel told a news conference.
Last week, authorities confiscated 1.4 tons of expired meat in the Metn town of Fanar, northeast of Beirut.
The Consumer Protection Office also seized a quantity of imported meat bearing no expiration date labels during the same Feb. 23 Fanar operation, which targeted a meat and fish store.
