BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army will increase security measures over the period between the Islamic New Year Thursday and Ashoura, which falls on Nov. 24. In a statement issued by Army Command Wednesday, it was announced Army units in various areas of the country had already started taking exceptional security measures around areas hosting celebrations and condolences, as well as areas where people are likely to gather. The security measures are aimed at making residents feel safe and they will include establishing extra checkpoints and additional deployment of troops, the statement added.
