BEIRUT: A man believed to have shot a Lebanese Army officer who later died of his wounds was charged with murder Wednesday. Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr charged Hasan Karaki with “deliberately killing Col. Abbas Jomaa and trying to kill others during a [Sept. 21] Lebanese Army raid in the Beirut southern suburb of Ghobeiri.” Jomaa was shot and wounded in the hunt for Karaki. Several other Army soldiers were also wounded in the chase. Jomaa died of his wounds a few days later. Karaki, who has several other criminal charges against him, is in military custody.
