BEIRUT: Syria’s crisis can only be solved through a political solution, Deputy Hezbollah leader Sheikh Naim Qassem said Friday.

“The solution for the Syrian crisis is political... No other solution seems possible,” Qassem said following a meeting with Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim, according to a statement

Qassem also said that the current situation in the neighboring country is likely to continue in the absence of such a political solution.

“Such solution would be for the benefit of Lebanon and the whole region as well,” said Qassem.

Hezbollah’s official also said his party rejects involving Lebanon in the Syrian crisis or using it as a platform against the Syrian regime.

“Hezbollah also rejects smuggling arms from Lebanon to Syrian or sheltering armed rebels in some Lebanese areas,” Qassem said.
