BEIRUT: The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon praised the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee’s work in reducing tension between communities Thursday, according to a press release from the organization. Derek Plumbly specifically praised the work of the group in defusing tension in the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp after clashes that strained relations between the Lebanese Army and Palestinian communities, the press release added. The Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee works to resolve outstanding issues between the two groups, which have a history of strained relations. Also Thursday, the committee launched a new initiative to make a standard system of management in Palestinian camps and in their relations with Lebanese authorities, the press release said.
