BEIRUT: Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt called on churches Monday to mull forming a fund to put an end to land sales by Christians, warning that such transactions undermine the basis of coexistence in the country. “It could be useful in this regard that churches discuss with a group of wealthy Christians the establishment of a fund to put an end to the phenomenon of land sales,” Jumblatt wrote in his weekly column in the PSP’s Al-Anbaa newspaper. “We also call on Muslims not to take advantage of the fact that Christians are leaving [their villages] and buy [their land], as the protection of diversity largely serves their interest,” added the Chouf lawmaker.
