UNIFIL chief meets with Sleiman, Mikati, Berri
A+ A-

BEIRUT: The head of the U.N. Interim United Forces in Lebanon, Maj. Gen. Paolo Serra, met Wednesday with President Michel Sleiman, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The meetings followed the extension of UNIFIL’s mandate by one year. Issues discussed included the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701, and in particular, cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army, according to a UNIFIL statement. After the meetings, Serra said, “I informed [them] that UNIFIL, in close coordination with the Army, has enhanced its operational activities to maintain security and stability in our area of operations following the recent redeployment of Army units north of the Litani river.”
