BEIRUT: A further 6,500 Syrian refugees have sought assistance from the UNHCR and the Lebanese government over the past week. Almost 75,000 refugees are now receiving assistance, 53,000 of whom are registered. The true number of refugees is thought to be tens of thousands more. The UNHCR recently announced it would be expanding its registration efforts into south Lebanon, where it is estimated that there are at least 10,000 refugees.
